Conference Centre

Need that perfect place for a party or function, or does your business want something a bit quirky for it’s latest conference? Look no further than the fantastic Alton Towers Conference Centre.

It’s an extravagantly decorated facility with a handy modular design so that the conference rooms can be adapted to suit an orientation of your choice. The lower ground state-room also has access to a secluded patio area and the whole facility is far enough away from the theme park to keep noise and interruption away.

Facilities

The Stateroom

algenonsloungeThe Stateroom is fitted with all the latest audio, video and lighting equipment there is to help add that bit of flare to your event. Being located on the ground floor it is also easily accessible if you should have any props or equipment of your own to bring with you.

Not only does the room have ample floorspace, capable of seating up to 550 people, it also includes an outdoor patio, where visitors can grab a breath of fresh air, and even includes a bar area in the room.

Want to make the most of the Staterooms facilities, but are planning an event on a smaller scale? No problem! The Stateroom can be split into three smaller rooms for such occasions, offering all the same great features but with a much smaller capacity.

The Syndicate Rooms

The Syndicate rooms are a set of smaller rooms that are ideal for splitting off into smaller groups for various activities. Each room has a theme (including some on popular rides like Nemesis, Air and Hex). All the rooms come with power and network sockets to facilitate use of computers and other devices.

The Emperor’s Suite

Looking for something a bit smaller than The Stateroom? The Emperor’s Suite is located on the ground floor of the Alton Towers Hotel, opposite the Dragon Bar, and has a capacity of 200 guests. The suite can be used for seminars, and presentations, just like the Stateroom, and can be equipped with AV equipment should it be needed.

Just like the Stateroom, the Emperor’s Suite can be divided down into three smaller rooms, to offer the same experience at a fraction of the size.

Sir Algenon’s Lounge

Conference Centre (upstairs bar area)Sir Algenon’s Lounge can be found on the first floor of the conference centre, above the Stateroom. This area is one of the more relaxed areas of the centre, with comfy seating areas, and an open area called The Hub, which is the perfect place to start an event and get everyone ready.

For a brief period in 2012 Sir Algenon’s Lounge was converted into Sir Algenon’s Bar and Grill. This restaurant offered a Woodcutters style menu, and was intended as another place for hotel guests to dine in the evening. This has since closed, and the area has reverted to its original state.

Waterpark

Looking for something a little more out of the ordinary? How about a conference in the Alton Towers Waterpark?! The waterpark is the perfect location for team building days and other similar events, whatever the weather. Alternatively, at night it can be the perfect place to do business in a laid back, beach party style. A brilliant way to add a twist to the event!

Theme Park Facilities

As well as the Conference Centre, Alton Towers also have various other conference rooms and facilities on offer in the theme park. See our On Park Conferences page for more info.

Catering

Catering

The Alton Towers Conference Centre is fortunate enough to have its own dedicated team of chefs, waiters, and bar staff, all of whom can be on hand to help quench the thirst and fill the stomachs of guests at the Conference Centre.

Conference Centre (upstairs bar area)Dinner can be served in the Stateroom, which will seat a maximum of 430 people for a sit down lunch or dinner. Menus can be arranged with the conference centre team while making arrangements for the event. Alternatively, for a more relaxed atmosphere light refreshment can be served in Sir Algenon’s Lounge, or even on the Stateroom patio where the catering team can also offer barbecues, weather permitting.

If dining in the Conference Centre is not for you, the hotels all offer restaurants. The hotel bars are also available, for guests to grab a drink during their visit.

History

History

Alton Towers first introduced conferencing facilities within the hotel when it first opened in 1996, though at this time the only facilities available were the Emperor’s Suite, located alongside the Dragon Bar. Prior to this the park had some smaller rooms available within the theme park itself, though these were basic. Only the Corporate Hospitality Suite had any notable capacity, so the addition of the new suite was a welcome expansion to the offering.

algenonsloungeHowever, conferencing was an area of resort operations that Alton Towers were keen to expand, and so the planned addition of Splash Landings in 2003 gave the perfect opportunity to dramatically increase conferencing capacity, and so along with the opening of the new hotel and waterpark, the Alton Towers Conference Centre was born.

The massive capacity of the new Conference Centre has since allowed the resort to build up an impressive conferencing business, whilst freeing up facilities to allow expansion in other areas. As such, Emperor’s Suite was utilised to bring the Easter Bunny’s Warren to the hotels for Chocolate Towers and Room 13 for Halloween 2006, which was such a success that it paved the way for Scarefest the following year.

Room 13 returned for its last run in 2007, before being replaced by the Boiler House, and the Emperor Suite returned to full conferencing duties once again. However by 2011, with the resort seeking to expand the catering options at the hotels, the Emperor Suite was transformed into the Emperor Grill, an occasional steak restaurant, used during peak times to satisfy guest demands, though the suite is still sometimes used for conferences. In a similar move the summer of 2012 saw Sir Algenon’s Lounge in the Conference Centre become home to a pop-up restaurant, Sir Algenon’s Bar & Grill, to offer more variety to the hotel’s catering line-up, though the restaurant closed down again at the end of the busy summer season.
