PortAventura: General Discussion

I'm going in 3 weeks time for the first time ever, it's the week before school holidays is it likely to be busy?

Also any tips or things to avoid etc?
Furious Baco, Shambhala, Uncharted, and Hurakon Condor all have single rider queues. Red Force also has one but it’s halfway down the regular queue line and up to you how confident you feel in cutting out a bit of the queue to get over to it.

Red Force’s SRQ is the one and only time I’ve ever felt justified “queue jumping” (even though it isn’t really) by walking down the left hand side of the main queue.

Such a stupid layout.

I saw in TPWW's recent vlog that there's now a security guard in the queue to prevent people from doing that.

I was there last week the day after TPWW filmed their vlog. I had been queuing in the main queue and was a few rows back in the cattle pen from the single rider split point when I saw some people just go down the side and step over in to the single rider so I’ll admit that I stepped forward a couple of rows to get to the SRQ as if I hadn’t have done that then others would have cut in before me. After I had my ride and went back again there was a security guard posted there but it was sporadic, they were just there for a couple of short periods and it seems the accepted thing when they aren’t there to just go straight ahead to the SRQ. The design of the queue area isn’t a great one as there are several different paths and people were cutting down the left hand side as well to skip a big part, it’s a bit of a mess to honest how it’s set up.

Went and had a look. That basically makes the SRQ completely useless.

Very typical of PA to get a security guard to enforce the one place it’s generally accepted as okay and not the million other places queue jumping occurs across the park though.

I can confirm the security guard was there the whole time I was there between 6-10pm making sure nobody cut to the single rider queue which is ashame because I was there solo and I waited 1 hour 20 and the second time round was about 45 minutes but then the queue died down significantly and had a few dusk and night rides with shorter queues.
Also saw and spoke to theme park Jake (Drayton manor ride op) in the queue line which was funny.

Fantastic ride and the front row was absolutely awesome it's so much better than stealth in my opinion but yea I guess the reason why they put that security guard there was so more people buy fast track because the SRQ isn't even guaranteed to save any time with where it is but atleast there's no empty seats I guess.

Surely single rider queues are only effective if they reduce the queue time for the single rider. If it ran from the station all the way to the ride entrance, at capacity it would arguably be quicker to just join the main queue which defeats the purpose.

I remembered to take a photo showing the location of the new Single Rider queue for Baco. It seems well managed !

On the subject of Baco though, now all of the effects are off or broken. The only thing working is the screens. Hopefully this ride will get a much needed refurb soon, ideally with new trains

Even better, tear the thing down. It’s hideously rough and ruins the once beautiful and peaceful setting of Mediterranea. It used to be wonderful to sit on the sailing ship with a beer; now that rattling abomination thunders past ever few minutes, ruining the atmosphere and the view.

Possibly the worst single decision PA have ever made in my opinion.

Hello. We want to visit PA with our 2-year-old child, and we definitely plan to buy Express Passes. Do you know how long the waiting time is with the Express Pass? We want to visit the park on a Monday. For example, if the standard waiting time is 60 minutes, how long will we wait with the Express Pass? Will it be around 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or should it be significantly faster, like almost immediately? I want to know your experience? :)

Went to PortAventura for the first time this week and really loved the park! Managed to get at least two rides on every coaster in a day and got on every other ride we wanted to go on too. Very nice park, think it's just missing a few dark rides.

I visited the park a few weeks ago. The Express Pass got me on the rides pretty much immediately. However be aware that it can’t be used some rides (such as Uncharted, Tomahawk, Hurakon Condor, Elmo’s Street Mission). And when I visited there were some rides such as the Rapids, and Log Flume that didn’t even have a queue anyway as the line was moving fast.

Going to PA for the first time in about 10 odd years, Have the operations got any better? I heard a new director was in, Will be going end of September or do you think fast track will be needed?
On a side note.. What investment do you think PA will do next?

Managed to get on every major ride 2 or 3 times when I was over there a few weeks ago, but it was quite a quiet day. That being said, nothing was running on a single train which I've heard happen a lot on quiet days here, and I never felt frustrated with the speed of operations.

Furios Baco broke down a lot but always came back relatively quickly too.

I went on a solo trip there a month ago, I had two days at the park and I’d bought a one day Unlimited Express Pass (which I planned to save for the second day) as I’d heard all about the issues with queues and operations. But I was very pleasantly surprised at my day at the park without it. I got a decent amount of rides in, I made use of single rider queues for the attractions that have them, and managed to get in a decent amount of rides including about four on Shambhala and I think six on Red Force.

The rides that have single rider queues are Furious Baco, Shambhala, Uncharted, and Hurakon Condor, and Red Force has a slightly different setup where the SRQ is part way down the retaliation regular queue but you can sometimes just go straight for it (though it depends on how bold you feel and whether or not the SRQ gate is being guarded by staff). An important thing to bear in mind fast pass only applies to certain rides and not everything in the park so for some rides such as Tomahawk there only a regular queue for it.

Booking to go here mid September for 4 nights. Should I expect minimal queues as the price of the hotel is €134 per night including entry into park for 2 and Ferrari land. That seems almost too good to be true to be essentially giving away hotel rooms?!

Park hours are 10-6 and we plan on spending 2 days on park, an evening in Ferrari land then heading into Barcelona for a full day. Feels weird to be staying on site and heading out into the city as that is genuinely the cheapest hotel when you consider location and benefits thrown in.

This is exactly what I thought when I did it, but the operations were great throughout the visit and queues were never very long at all. Didn't feel the need to get a fast pass for example.

The one downside is that it's incredibly hard to get out of the site by foot or public transport to visit the city.

I’ve always wanted to visit PA but the operations have lingered at the back of my mind and it’s always put me off going, mainly because I’m an impatient queuer! I’ve heard good things about operations recently though so that’s good to hear I may not need to get fast passes, although they are reasonably priced for the date of travel (€65 unlimited pp)

We’d be renting a car for the duration so public transport wouldn’t be on the cards luckily.

That’s the same price I paid last month. I had wanted two days at the park so my plan had been to stay in the cheapest “affiliate” accommodation I could find in Salou which would include a park ticket and then buy another for a second day but then I realised that staying at Hotel El Paso was excellent value for money. For one night’s stay at £130 I got included two days entry to PA and one to FL. The train journey to and from Barcelona was super easy and took 90 mins. Just be aware that there are only a few trains each day that go straight through from Barcelona to PortAventura, otherwise you have to change trains at Tarragona (which isn’t too big a deal anyway).
